Black Sea Trade Data

Black Sea Grain & Oilseed Trade Data

Wheat, corn, barley, sunflower, soybean and rapeseed exports and imports of Romania and Bulgaria, to and from all countries, built entirely from Eurostat's official Comext trade statistics.

The Black Sea has been one of the world's most closely watched grain corridors since 2022, when the war in Ukraine disrupted established export routes and pushed a larger share of regional grain trade through Romanian and Bulgarian ports. Search interest in Black Sea commodity flows, Black Sea grain trade and Black Sea wheat exports has grown accordingly, but detailed, country-by-country trade figures for the region are often scattered across national customs agencies or locked behind paid data terminals.

This tool pulls its numbers directly from Eurostat's Comext database — the European Union's detailed international trade statistics system — using CN8 product codes for each of the seven commodities it covers. Romania and Bulgaria are EU Member States, so both report their trade with Ukraine, Moldova and Turkey directly to Eurostat; because those three countries are not themselves EU reporters, their trade is shown here as mirrored data, reconstructed from Romania's and Bulgaria's own reporting rather than pulled from a Ukrainian, Moldovan or Turkish source. Every figure is labelled by year, flow direction and trading partner, and where Eurostat has no record for a particular combination, the tool says so plainly — it never estimates or fills a gap with a guess.

Alongside the trade figures, the tool shows live maritime context for the region's main ports — Constanța, Novorossiysk and Odesa — plus current transit activity through the Bosphorus, sourced from the IMF's PortWatch programme. This is separate, real-time data shown for context; it is never blended into the Eurostat trade figures above it.

Black Sea Commodity Flows is used by grain traders and merchandisers tracking regional export volumes, trade finance and insurance professionals assessing counterparty exposure in the region, analysts and journalists covering Black Sea agricultural trade, and business development teams preparing for commodity-sector meetings who need a quick, sourced snapshot of who is trading what with whom. It requires no account and no login, and the data updates as Eurostat publishes new figures.

Black Sea Commodity Flows

Total grain and oilseed exports and imports of Romania and Bulgaria, with all trading partners and a breakdown for their neighbours, built entirely from Eurostat Comext detailed (CN8) trade statistics — the only source Monaco Trade Forum found with an explicit, verifiable commercial-reuse and redistribution right for this data. Romania and Bulgaria report directly to Eurostat, so their totals cover all countries. Ukraine, Moldova and Turkey (official EU candidate countries) are shown only as their trade with Romania and Bulgaria, as mirrored from Romania's and Bulgaria's own reporting. No value shown here is ever estimated or invented — a combination with no Eurostat record on file is shown as "Data unavailable".

Maritime Context — Black Sea Ports (IMF PortWatch)

Live port-call and chokepoint-transit activity for context only. This is a separate dataset from the Eurostat Comext trade figures above — a vessel call, port record or Bosphorus transit shown here is never a match to a specific commercial transaction or trade value above.

Trade data: Eurostat Comext (dataset ds-045409), CN8 detailed international trade statistics — © European Union, reused under the Eurostat copyright/licence policy (attribution required, redistribution permitted for EU Member States, EFTA states and official EU candidate countries). Romania and Bulgaria report their own trade directly. Ukraine, Moldova and Turkey figures are Romania+Bulgaria mirror trade only, not that country's full global trade. Maritime context: IMF PortWatch (portwatch.imf.org), reused under IMF's terms with attribution. Commodity → customs (CN8) code mapping and the Eurostat API response format could not be live-tested before this tool was deployed (network access to Eurostat was not available in the development environment) — combinations that fail to parse or have no record on file are always shown as "Data unavailable", never estimated.
